About HighTechU

Based in the UVic Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE), HighTechU is a diverse community for high school students to make connections, build professional skills and explore diverse career pathways in technology.

Since HighTechU began in 2018, we have welcomed students of all genders, abilities, and backgrounds into our technology programs. There’s 2 main drives behind our programs:

  • Students aren’t learning all the skills they need for industry success at school
  • Students don’t know what they can do with engineering or how to apply skills they’ve already learnt to the real world
The Techccelerator (software engineering) and EngAcademy (electrical engineering) strive to change that by using a design thinking framework to teach hands-on, real-world technology and business skills in a startup-like environment.
